OVW TV #702: "Winner and NEW Heavyweight Champion..."

This is the OVW Report for Wednesday, January 30, 2013. This episode can be seen online starting tomorrow at www.ovwrestling.com/tv. In this final episode before Saturday's SNS, we got a new Heavyweight Champion, new #1 contender for the Heavyweight Title, a crazy 4-corner tag team match, plus much more!

Without further ado:

Here we go...

Pre-Show Dark Matches:

"VIP" Joe Rosa b. Jeremiah Plunkett. Plunkett & VIP both poke each other in the eye. Plunkett gets VIP in the corner and VIP hits him with a cheap shot. They go to lock up for a test of strength, and each kick each other low. They lock up and Plunkett hits a chop to VIP's throat. He scratches VIP's back, and kicks him in the corner. VIP fires back, but Plunkett pokes him in the eye again. He hits a big backdrop and tries to pin, but VIP kicks out. Plunkett locks VIP up from behind and shoves him toward the ropes, but VIP grabs the ref. With the ref distracted, VIP raises his leg and low blows Plunkett behind him. He rolls him up with a handful of tights and gets the 3. MY TAKE: These 2 clearly had the same ideas, but in the end, VIP outplayed Plunkett.

OVW Women's Champion Jessie Belle & Epiphany b. December & Taeler Hendrix. Before Epiphany or Jessie Belle even came out, Taeler was already arguing with December, telling her to listen to her. After Epiphany & Jessie Belle come out, Eddie Diamond 's music hits and he comes out with Timmy Danger. Eddie tells Epiphany she looks even better live than on camera. He says she just makes his heart do crazy things. He loves everything about her, including her lips, hips, and fingertips. He wishes her luck as Taeler & December attack from behind. Taeler kicks Epiphany and puts her in an armbar. She tags December. Epiphany fires back and tags in Jessie Belle. Jessie throws her in the corner and brings Epiphany back in. December with a shot to the chest. She tags Taeler. Taeler with some kicks and tags December back. They throw Epiphany into the ropes for a double clothesline, but Epiphany comes off with a double clothesline of her own. She hits a big slam on December and tags Jessie Belle back in. Jessie hits a sitting snapmare and tries to pin, but Taeler breaks it up. Epiphany gets in and chases Taeler to the back. Jessie hits a running bulldog on December and gets the pin. MY TAKE: Epiphany & Jessie Belle worked well together tonight, but what will happen when they face off for the OVW Women's Title at SNS?

That concludes tonight's pre-show dark matches. I always recommend watching the episode first on TV or online before reading the rest of the report. Again, you can check it out on OVW's official website late Thursday afternoon/evening at www.ovwrestling.com/tv.

Doug Williams comes out and says that he is now #1 contender, but calls Rob Terry a paper champion and says he is never around to defend his title and doesn't remember the last time he defended it. Big Rob comes out and takes exception to Doug's comments and says he will defend the title right now. Trailer Park Trash comes out and asks Doug if he's sure he wants to use his #1 contendership now. Doug says he does and we have a title match to kick things off...
OVW HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: Doug Williams vs. "The Welsh Colossus" Rob Terry (c). Doug attacks Rob to start the match, but Terry fires back. He clotheslines Doug, slams him into the turnbuckle, and hits a shoulder tackle. Doug comes back with a knee to the face. He hits him with some forearms, headbutts, and then takes him down with a leg takedown. He holds on and puts Terry in a leglock and holds the ropes for support. Rob gets to the ropes for the break. Doug continues to work on his knee, kicking it, and hitting it across the ring apron. He goes for a pin, but Rob kicks out at 2. He puts Rob in a facelock, before headbutting him in the gut. He concentrates on the knee some more, putting him in another leg hold. Rob clubs out. Doug throws Rob to the outside. He goes out and hits Rob, but Rob rams him into the guardrail to get some space. He rolls in. Doug gets up on the ring apron, and as Rob tries to pull him in, Doug pulls his head across the top rope. Doug goes to the top and hits an elbow to Rob's head. He tries to pin, but Rob kicks out at 2. Doug hits a forearm in the corner and goes to throw him into the opposite corner, but Rob reverses. Rob charges Doug, but catches a boot to the face. Doug goes up top again, but Terry gets to him before he can jump and hits a top rope suplex. Rob is back up and hits Doug with some clubbing blows and a back elbow in the corner. He hits the powerslam, but Doug kicks out at 2! Rob goes for a chokeslam, but Doug shoves him into referee Chris Sharpe. With Sharpe down, Flash runs out and hits both Rob & Doug with a steel chair. Moose comes out and chases Flash to the back. Doug tries to get Rob, but Rob slips away and hits the chokeslam. Sharpe is back and starts the pin, but Josette pulls him out of the ring! Moose & Johnny Spade run out and Spade goes to superkick Doug, but nails Moose. Doug low blows Spade and knocks him out of the ring. With Rob distracted, Flash runs back out and hits a russian leg sweep on the chair on Rob. Doug gets the pin on Rob! WINNER and NEW OVW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: DOUG WILLIAMS by pinfall. After the match, Spade grabs a mic and says that he should be #1 contender now that Doug is champion. Moose grabs the mic away and says he should be. Trailer Park Trash says he can't do anything about Doug being champion, but later tonight Spade & Moose will meet to decide a new #1 contender. MY TAKE: Wow, what a crazy opening to the show. Now that Doug Williams is the new Heavyweight Champion, who will get the nod to face him at SNS?

4-CORNER TAG TEAM MATCH: The Mascara Mafia: Espy & Paredyse vs. The Mobile Homers: Adam Revolver & "Manbeast" Ted McNaler (w/Brittany Devore) vs. The Best Team Ever: Rudy Switchblade & "Mr. Pec-Tacular" Jessie Godderz vs. The Gutcheckers: Sam Shaw & Alex Silva. Adam starts with Jessie and locks him in an armbar. Quick tags in and out with Ted as they work over Jessie's arm. Jessie finally gets a shot in to Adam, but instead of tagging Rudy, tags Espy in. Jessie & Rudy argue from different corners on the outside as Espy runs into an armdrag from Adam. Adam tags to Rudy. Rudy slams Espy and tries to tag Jessie, but Jessie pulls his hand away. Espy tags Paredyse, and they hit a double butt bump on Rudy and Paredyse hits a dropkick followed by a kip up. Rudy & Paredyse double clothesline each other. Paredyse tags Silva, while Rudy tries to tag Jessie, but Jessie still won't tag. Silva clotheslines Rudy and goes for a pin, but the Mobile Homers break it up. The Mascara Mafia fight to the outside with them, and the Gutcheckers fly to the outside on all four. In the ring, Jessie is taunting Rudy, and Rudy leaves as Silva & Shaw get back on the apron. Shaw runs in and rolls up Jessie for the 3. WINNERS: GUTCHECKERS by pinfall. After the match, the Mascara Mafia & Mobile Homers get into it with Paredyse even shoving Brittany. MY TAKE: The Gutcheckers are ready for their tag title rematch, but the rest of the tag division is out of whack. The Best Team Ever continues their dysfunctional ways, while the Mascara Mafia has a personal beef with the Mobile Homers.

The Coalition is out and it was hard to hear exactly what Jason Wayne & Crimson were saying, but basically we are all terrorists and they are going to make sure for our own good that ticket prices are raised, concession stand prices are raised, and they are going to install a security check at the door. They then say there is a terrorist among them and call out Gilbert Corsey. The Wild Cards grab him and throw him in the ring. They hold him and scan him with a metal detector finding his cell phone and keys, and supposedly finding a weapon and grenade that Ghillie jumps on. They handcuff him and put a bag over his head. Dean Hill left commentary to find help. Crimson puts on gloves and says they are going to do a cavity search and tell them to pull Gilbert's pants down. Dean finally comes out of the curtain with the Gutcheckers and steel chairs in hand to run off the Coalition.

"The Ken of OVW, Justin Bieber of Professional Wrestling, & King of Pink" Dylan Freak'n Bostic (w/Taeler Hendrix) & "Mr. Multimedia" Cliff Compton vs. Ryan Howe & Jamin Olivencia. Bostic starts with Howe and takes him down. Howe back with a punch and tags in Jamin. Jamin throws Dylan in the corner and does his running kamikaze splashes. He hits the jumping clothesline, and goes to pick Dylan up. Dylan clotheslines Jamin and tags Cliff. Cliff comes in to grab Jamin, but Jamin jumps up and hits the Standing O DDT for the win! WINNERS: OLIVENCIA & HOWE by pinfall. MY TAKE: A quick and somewhat surprising finish. Can Jamin take out Cliff with another Standing O at SNS and climb the ladder to retrieve the OVW TV Title?

#1 CONTENDER'S MATCH FOR THE OVW HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE: "Smooth" Johnny Spade vs. James "Moose" Thomas. Doug Williams came out first and joined Dean Hill & Michael Titus on commentary. Moose meets Spade on the floor and they brawl at ringside. They get in the ring and exchange blows. Spade knocks Moose back out of the ring with a knee to the head. Spade gets on the ring apron and jumps on Moose, but Moose catches him and rams him into the ringpost. Moose charges Spade, but Spade moves and Moose clotheslines the ringpost. They continue bralwing on the outside and both men are counted out. They keep brawling and Trailer Park Trash comes out to break them up. Doug Williams grabs a mic and says they both lose and he doesn't need to defend the title at SNS. Trash instead sets a triple threat for SNS with Doug defending against both Spade & Moose. Flash attacks Trash from behind with a stretcher and then delivers a piledriver on the floor telling Trash to look at his daughter, because he is going to put him and OVW out for good. Several referees, superstars, come out to check on Trash. MY TAKE: Almost as crazy an ending as it was to start off the show. We now have a new main event for the OVW Heavyweight Title at SNS!

This ended the TV taping.

Post-Show Dark Matches:

They showed a backstage segment with the Mobile Homers apologizing to the Mascara Mafia and Adam saying Ted sticks his foot in his mouth a lot. They shake, but the Mobile Homers offer them some Chick-Fil-A since they don't have any of Momma's home-fried chicken which angers them and they reject it. They say they expected this from rednecks like them, but not Brittany. (This might be placed in the main show somewhere, but they showed this to the live crowd after intermission).

The Wild Cards: Shiloh Jonze & "Rudo" Raul LaMotta b. King Entertainment Inc.: Matt & Chase King. Matt gets distracted by Shiloh allowing Raul to attack from behind. Shiloh tags in and stomps on Matt's throat. Raul back in and takes Matt down. Shiloh back in with a knee drop. He chops Matt in the corner. Matt turns it around and delivers some chops to Shiloh. He throws Shiloh into the opposite corner, but catches a boot from Shiloh. Chase tries to come in, but the ref tries to get him in his corner while Raul & Shiloh double team Matt. Raul takes Chase out while Shiloh gets the pin. MY TAKE: The Wild Cards get off the skid and come up with a win here tonight.

The Coalition: "Sergeant Major" Jack Black, "The Kamikaze of Combat Communications" Joe Coleman, & the OVW Southern Tag Team Champions "General" Crimson & "The He-Man of Homeland Security" Jason Wayne b. Elvis Pridemoore, Tony Gunn, "The Double R Superstar" Randy Royal, & Eddie Diamond (w/Timmy Danger). Gunn armdrags Coleman and puts him in an armbar. Royal tags in and gives him a kidney shot and locks the armbar again. Diamond tags in and hits Coleman's arm off the second rope. Coleman comes back and shoves Diamond in the Coalition's corner. EFD takes a lot of abuse as they triple team him in the corner. He finally tags Royal who comes in and takes everyone down until Coleman nails him with a clothesline. Crimson comes in and works over Royal and clubs him across the chest. Royal hits a chinbuster, but Crimson takes him back down with a clothesline. Coleman hits him in the corner. Wayne comes in and chokes him with his boot and does the choking pushups. Coleman is back in and puts him in a submission, but Royal flips him over and tags Gunn. Gunn with left hooks to all the Coalition. He tries to put Coleman in the YTO, but gets hits from behind. We have a free for all with everyone fighting around the ring. Gunn tags out to Elvis and Coleman tags Crimson. In the melee, Crimson & Jason Wayne double chokeslam and pin Elvis for the win. MY TAKE: The Coalition was working on all cylinders tonight.

Don't forget this episode will be up online tomorrow. We already knew that every title would be defended at SNS as Jessie Belle defends the OVW Women's Title against Epiphany, The Coalition defends the OVW Southern Tag Team Titles against the Gutcheckers, and Cliff Compton defends the TV Title against Jamin Olivencia in a ladder match, but now Doug Williams defends the OVW Heavyweight Title against Moose & Johnny Spade in a triple threat! Plus, Trailer Park Trash vs. Flash in a Last Man Standing match. I will have a report up late Saturday night. Also remember that every Monday night you can find the latest edition of the OVW Top 20 here on OVWmania. As always, thanks for reading!

  1. I know at times one should never apply logic, but after last night, I am concluding the writers are managing a perception of only promoting 2 of the 3 Impact Gutcheckers. We all agree that she is the most talented and the most popular. (Unless there is something on the horizon at SNS). Your comments and opinion would be appreciated. Thanks.
