OVW TV #876: "The Gunn Show"

This is the OVW Report for Wednesday, June 1, 2016. This episode can be seen on WBNA-21 in the Louisville area on Saturday at 11AM and 10PM, and online on Monday at www.ovwrestling.com/tv. In this episode, a TV Title rematch between Bud Dwight & Tony Gunn, a big 4-corners tag team match, plus who will be the 4th man in the OVW Heavyweight Title match at Saturday Night Special?

Without further ado:

Here we go...

Pre-Show Dark Matches:

Stephon Smith defeats Brother Reed. Stephon takes Reed down and works over his arm. Reed reverses out and locks in a side headlock. Stephon pushes him off the ropes and shoulder blocks him down. Reed kips up and arm drags him. He hits a dropkick and an arm drag after jumping off the second rope. He works over Stephon's arm, then misses a splash. Stephon knees him in the gut and throws him hard into the corner. He goes up top, but Reed jumps up and takes him down with a headscissors. Reed grabs Stephon, but Stephon catches him with a chinbuster. Stephon misses a charge in the corner and Reed connects with a DDT. Stephon stands on the apron and shoulders Reed in the gut. He goes to jump in, but Reed dropkicks him off. Reed then flies over the top rope onto Stephon on the outside. He rolls Stephon in, and jumps off the top rope with a flying body press. Reed tries several quick pin attempts. Stephon comes back with a shining wizard for the 3.

Jessie Belle (w/Shane Andrews) defeats Jamie Lynne. Jamie tries to trick Jessie by saying she lost a contact lens. She also tries a couple quick school boys, but Jessie locks her in a back breaking submission for the tapout.

That concludes tonight's pre-show dark matches. I always recommend watching the episode first on TV or online before reading the rest of the report. Again, you can check it out on WBNA ion-21 in the Louisville area Saturdays at 11AM and 10PM (check local listings) and on OVW's official website Mondays at www.ovwrestling.com/tv.

Gilbert Corsey, Ron Hed, & Shannon the Dude are on commentary, and Ron is the ring announcer.

Dean Hill comes to the ring and has an announcement regarding the 4th man in the SNS Fatal 4-Way for the OVW Heavyweight Title. Let's bring him out...however, instead, Dean gets the Bad Boys Club. Randy Royal tries to speak, but can't after what happened to him last week. He has a doctor's note saying he cannot compete this week.
This brings out the Tag Buddies. They say they deserve their rematch, and Royal deserves what is coming to him. Dean says the note does look legit, however it says that Royal can't compete this week. So, next week on OVW TV, there will be a match for the OVW Southern Tag Team Titles. He asks both teams to leave as he has other business to attend to. He asks the 4th man to come out again, but this time he gets Tony Gunn. Gunn wants Bud Dwight and the TV Title that deserves to be around his waist.
This brings Dwight out. Dwight says Gunn deserves a butt whippin' and would like nothing more than to give him one. Dean says Gunn doesn't deserve anything, but since Dwight wants it, there will be a match for the OVW TV Title later on tonight. He says that win or lose, he doesn't want to hear anything from either of them about another shot for 30 days. He now hopes he can finally bring out the 4th man...it's Mitch Huff. He says Huff deserves an opportunity and just needs his signature. Before Huff can sign the contract, Big Jon comes to the ring.
Jon tells Dean he got the doctor's clearance and is ready to go for the Special. Dean says he has a small problem now, because he promised Huff the match. Huff says they should fight like champions do for the final spot. Jon is down with the idea. Dean says that sounds good to him, they will have the match tonight. Jon tells Huff they are boys outside the ring, but once the bell rings it's all business.

Justin Smooth defeats Mickey Muscles. A squash for Smooth. He chops Muscles in the corner, throws him hard into the other corner, connects with a side slam, and then his finisher. This one is over quick.

4-CORNER TAG TEAM MATCH: "The Van Zandt Family Circus": Dapper Dan Van Zandt & the Ringmaster (w/Scarlet & Little Damion) defeat Landon & Trevor Steele, Jade Dawson & "The Young Lion" Tyler Matrix (w/Torey Payne), and "The Man of Tomorrow" Daniel Eads & "Primetime" Robbie Walker (w/Josh Ashcraft). All 4 teams get their time in the ring. Jade takes the majority of the punishment. He gets a hot tag to Steele who comes in cleaning house. Everyone is knocked to the outside and fighting. Steele tags Landon and launches him onto the other 6 outside. While the melee continues outside, Landon gets in and goes after Ringmaster. Dapper Dan gets in and hits him with the Death Valley Driver, which is followed up by the flying elbow from Ringmaster for the 3.

Stephon Smith comes to the ring and has referees AJ Lucio & Joe Wheeler hold pictures of Harambe the gorilla and Rudy Switchblade. Stephon says the death of Harambe was tragic, and compares it to the pride of Rudy.
Gilbert Corsey gets in the ring and says comparing Rudy to what happened in Cincinnati is classless. He is not here to lecture Stephon, but has a message that Rudy will be at SNS and he hopes Rudy shuts him up. Stephon says good and shoves Gilbert to the mat.

"The Chosen One" Mitch Huff defeats Big Jon. A good match between the two. Jon catches Huff off the ropes for a chokeslam, but Justin Smooth comes out and distracts Jon. Jon goes for the chokeslam again, but Huff slides out. He rolls Jon up and gets the 3.
After the match, Jon goes after Smooth and they brawl to the back. Daniel Eads runs out with Josh Ashcraft and Eads attacks Huff from behind. Tyler Matrix runs out and joins in. Eads catches him with a Weight of the World. Rocco Bellagio has made his way out to ringside as well. Huff is back up and goes for an Athlete's Foot to Eads, but Eads ducks out of harm's way and Huff nails Ashcraft. Rocco grabs Huff to Plunge him, but Huff slides off for an Athlete's Foot. Rocco catches Huff's foot, but Huff connects with a neckbreaker drop.

OVW TELEVISION TITLE: Tony Gunn defeats "The Party Starter" Bud Dwight (c). Another good match between these two. This time, it comes down to the wire and Gunn locks him in the YTO as time limit expires. Dean Hill comes out and says how about 5 more minutes, and then says they can fight the rest of the night as far as he's concerned. Gunn undoes a turnbuckle cover which distracts referee AJ Lucio. As AJ is putting the cover back on, Gunn nails Dwight in the head with the TV Title. Gunn gets the 3. After the match, Gunn looks to shake hands with Dwight it appears, but Gunn grabs his hand and slings Dwight and his bad shoulder into the steel ringpost. He then delivers a DDT on the title.

This ended the TV taping.

Post-Show Dark Matches:

OVW Heavyweight Champion "The Show Stealer" Rocco Bellagio defeats "The Pastor of Disaster" Rev. Stuart Miles. Stu tries to heal Rocco, hitting him in the head several times. He heals him off the bottom rope, the second rope, then goes up top. On his final attempt, Rocco catches him and hits the Plunge for the 3.

As always, thanks for reading!

  1. I could complain about the women being in a dark match and not on the actual show, but at least they had an actual match.
Still would be great to see Scarlet wrestling, considering she IS THEIR CHAMPION NOW.
