OVW TV #914: "Smooth Selection"

This is the OVW Report for Wednesday, February 22, 2017. This episode can be seen on WBNA-21 in the Louisville area on Saturday at 11AM and 10PM, and online on Monday at www.ovwrestling.com/tv. In this episode, Big Zo challenges Robbie Walker for the OVW TV Title, Team Next Level defends the OVW Southern Tag Team Titles, Big Jon announces Rocco Bellagio's opponent for the March 4 SNS, plus more!

Without further ado:

Here we go...

Pre-Show Dark Matches:

David Lee Lorenze III defeats Dustin Jackson. The former "ring master" looks as if he is directing his own matches now. He had Gilbert Corsey redo his entrance. He gets the win pretty quickly after hitting the Final Cut. Gilbert pronounces his name wrong so David says we have to do the whole scene over again...
David Lee Lorenze III defeats Lucas Gibson. David wins pretty handily once again with the Final Cut for the 3.

Billy O & Kevin Giza defeat Dre Blitz & Martin Manson after Billy & Giza hit a double team faceplant on Manson for the 3.

Cardinal defeats Chris Hernandez. Cardinal controls most of the match and puts Hernandez away with a codebreaker.

That concludes tonight's pre-show dark matches. I always recommend watching the episode first on TV or online before reading the rest of the report. Again, you can check it out on WBNA ion-21 in the Louisville area Saturdays at 11AM and 10PM (check local listings) and on OVW's official website Mondays at www.ovwrestling.com/tv.

Gilbert Corsey & Shannon the Dude are on commentary, and Gilbert is the ring announcer.

OVW TELEVISION TITLE: "The King of Hairstyle" Robbie Walker (c) defeats Big Zo. Walker tries to attack Zo early, but Zo just throws him around like a rag doll. Walker comes back with some offense after Zo misses a big legdrop. Zo comes back with some hits into the corner and then charges in with the Zo train. He slams Robbie and goes up for the Zo bomb, but Robbie rolls out of the ring. Zo goes out to meet him and hits Robbie up against the ringpost, but rams himself into it charging at Robbie as Robbie moves. Robbie goes in and takes off a turnbuckle pad. The ref sees it and puts it back on as Robbie grabs his hairspray. Zo gets back in and kicks him and goes for a powerbomb, but as Robbie is up in the air, he sprays Zo in the eyes and falls on top of him with the Comb Over to get the 3.
After the match, Zo is angry and Robbie tries to hit him with the belt. Zo ducks and slams him. He goes up for the Zo bomb again, but Ca$h Flo is out. Ca$h moves Robbie, and low blows Zo. He powerbombs him off the top rope as Josh Ashcraft rolls out to ringside in a wheelchair. Josh tells Ca$h to bust him in the mouth and says that Zo will not leave the Nightmare Rumble intact.

Big Jon gets in the ring with Gilbert Corsey and Gilbert says this is the first time he is interviewing him as Assistant General Manager. Jon says he likes the sound of that and tells Gilbert to say it one more time. Jon says as much as he misses performing each week for all the fans, he has enjoyed making Rocco Bellagio miserable for the last few weeks. He is out to name his opponent for the March 4 SNS, but Rocco is out to interrupt.
He asks why Jon should pick his opponent. As the longest-reigning champion in history, Rocco feels he should get a say in who he faces. Jon has an idea. He says if Rocco wins his match in tonight's main event, he will allow Rocco to pick his opponent and the stipulation. If he doesn't, then Jon will pick his opponent and the stipulation that if Rocco cheats, tries to get disqualified, or counted out, the belt will still change hands. Rocco agrees, but wants to know his opponent for tonight. Jon says it's Rev. Stu, and Rocco laughs. He says he has already taken Stu to Plungetown once before. Jon says not to take his match lightly, he heard that Stu will have some help from "the big man upstairs".

Dapper Dan defeats LJ. LJ wanted a rematch. Dan takes it to him early, but LJ starts to comeback, even taking Dan off his feet with a kick to the head. He goes up top, but Dan catches LJ as he leaps off perfectly on his shoulders for the Death Valley Driver for the 3.

OVW SOUTHERN TAG TEAM TITLES: "Team Next Level": "The Complete Athlete" Devin Driscoll & "Shotgun" Tony Gunn (c) defeat Adam Slade & Houdini. Slade & Houdini get on a roll for a moment against Gunn. Houdini & Gunn each make tags out, and Slade runs at Driscoll, only to get caught with a cutter for the 3. After the match, Driscoll says they just beat the JV team, and need some real competition.

Shannon the Dude is in the ring yelling about what has happened the past few weeks between him and Tyler Matrix. He calls Dean Hill out.
He tells Dean that his restraining order runs out on March 3rd, the night before SNS, and he wants a match with Matrix so he can beat him again. Dean talks about proper microphone etiquette and then says he will check into the restraining order, but he is nothing more than a TV personality. He can't just go around making demands, but asks the fans if they want to see it. The fans do, so Dean says the match is on if everything checks out. Shannon runs his mouth about how he will beat the "Young Pussycat" again as Matrix comes out.
Matrix grabs him as Dean tells him to put Shannon down. Matrix puts him down...by slamming him. He then says he needs to go on to the back. Matrix isn't hearing it. He goes up top and delivers a swanton bomb. Dean shakes his head and says his law goes for everyone across the board. Matrix is suspended for the next week.

"The Pastor of Disaster" Rev. Stuart Miles defeats "The Show Stealer" Rocco Bellagio. A decent back and forth match. Stu gets on a roll, healing Rocco with Rocco's own hand. He takes Rocco off his feet with a shoulder tackle and some more "healing". They fight on the outside, as the 10 count rolls on. Stu just barely makes it back in before 10, but Rocco cannot as his leg is being held by "the big man upstairs" to keep him from getting back in.
Big Jon comes out holding Rocco's kneepad and says it must have fell off. He then says that at SNS, he will face this man...and out comes Justin Smooth!

This ended the TV taping.

Post-Show Dark Matches:

Jade Dawson defeats Little Damion.

Justin Smooth vs. Ca$h Flo ends in a no-contest. A good match up that sees Ca$h with the early advantage, before Smooth comes back. Smooth is able to connect with his running big boot finisher, but Ca$h rolls out of the ring. Zo is out and Ca$h starts brawling to the back with him, leaving Smooth in the ring to just watch.

As always, thanks for reading!
