OVW TV #885: "Of Course You Know, This Means War"

This is the OVW Report for Wednesday, August 3, 2016. This episode can be seen on WBNA-21 in the Louisville area on Saturday at 11AM and 10PM, and online on Monday at www.ovwrestling.com/tv. In this episode, Tony Gunn defends the TV Title against Big Jon in a match with War Games implications, the Tag Buddies get their rematch for the OVW Southern Tag Team Titles against Dapper Dan Van Zandt & Mad Man Pondo, Rudy Switchblade & Rocco Bellagio pick one another's opponent for the night, plus more!

Here we go...

Pre-Show Dark Matches:

"The Young Lion" Tyler Matrix defeats "Bad Boy" Shane Andrews. Some mat wrestling to start out. Shane pulls Matrix by his hair into the ropes. He knees him and throws him off the ropes, and Matrix comes back with a dropkick. He hits a flying forearm on Shane in one corner, then throws him to the opposite corner and comes in with a splash. He then connects with a kick to the face and a hurricanrana. Off the ropes, Shane grabs Matrix as he goes to slide through his legs and hits a belly to back suplex. He locks in a sleeper on Matrix. Matrix fights out, but Shane catches him with a kick to the face. He hits a back elbow off the ropes and kicks Matrix in the back. He then kicks Matrix out to the floor and flies over the top rope onto him. He rolls Matrix back in and locks in a sleeper again. Matrix fights out again, but gets caught with a knee to the gut. They exchange blows, and Shane gets the upperhand. He hits a codebreaker for 2. Shane throws him into the corner, but eats a boot to the face. He misses a charge, and Matrix hits a bulldog. He then splashes and forearms Shane in the corner. He hits a kick to the head for 2. Shane takes Matrix down and goes for a frog splash, but Matrix moves. Shane rolls through, but Matrix connects with a swinging neckbreaker and follows it up with the senton bomb for the 3.

Stephon Smith defeats Buck Gunderson. Buck puts Stephon in a side headlock and takes him down. Stephon comes back with a club to the back. Buck catches Stephon with an arm drag and slam. Stephon catches Buck on the ropes and hits him down. He slams him, but misses a legdrop. Buck tries a pin for 2. Stephon grabs Buck, but Buck rolls him up in an inside cradle for 2. Buck with a flurry of fists to Stephon in the corner, and pins for 2. Stephon comes back with a kick to the face and follows it up with a running knee to the face with Buck sitting against the ropes for the 3.

OVW SOUTHERN TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: "The Van Zandt Family Circus": Dapper Dan Van Zandt & Mad Man Pondo (w/Scarlet & Little Damion) (c) defeat "The Tag Buddies": Adam Revolver & "The Pastor of Disaster" Rev. Stuart Miles by DQ. The Buddies attack the Circus as they enter the ring. They go to throw them into each other. Pondo & Dan hook arms and spin around, but the Buddies catch them with clotheslines. They work over Dan's arm. Dan backdrops Stu and tags Pondo. Pondo comes in and misses an elbow. Stu tags Revolver and they exchange tags and shouldering Pondo in the corner. Stu splashes him and heals him in the corner, but Pondo grabs Stu and pulls him down across the top turnbuckle. He chokes Stu with his wrist tape while Dan distracts the ref. Dan tags in, and grabs Stu as he tries to tag, hitting him with a release belly to back suplex. Dan goes for a suplex, but Stu reverses. Both men tag and Adam fires away on both Pondo & Dan, hitting them into each other with a meeting of the minds. Dan clocks Adam from behind as he works on Pondo. Pondo goes for a pumphandle slam, but Adam reverses and hits the Russian leg sweep. Damion & Scarlet get on the apron distracting the ref, and Pondo grabs the kendo stick. Adam pulls it away and hits Pondo & Dan as the ref turns around, and calls for the bell.

OVW WOMEN'S TITLE MATCH: Jessie Belle (w/Shane Andrews) defeats Izza Belle Smothers (c). Shane grabs Izza as Jessie charges at her. Izza is still able to duck and hit Jessie down. She goes off the ropes, and this time Shane trips her. Referee AJ Lucio throws him out. Jessie fires away on Izza, but Izza fights back and into the corner. She climbs up for the 10-count punches, but after 3, Jessie hits her and powerbombs her off the ropes. She puts her feet on the ropes for leverage to get the 3.
As Jessie celebrates, Maria James comes out with referee Jamie Lynn and hits Jessie with her finisher for the 3. Maria is now the NEW OVW WOMEN'S CHAMPION!
As Maria celebrates, Izza Belle gets back up and hits Maria, and connects with a suplex off the top rope. Izza can't make the pin, and Jessie gets back up and pins Maria. Jessie is now the NEW OVW WOMEN'S CHAMPION!
As Jessie celebrates, Referee Jamie Lynn grabs Jessie and plants her with a DDT. AJ makes the count and now Jamie Lynn is the NEW OVW WOMEN'S CHAMPION!

PICK YOUR POISON: OVW Heavyweight Champion "The Show Stealer" Rocco Bellagio defeats "The Party Starter" Bud Dwight. Dwight takes it to Rocco out of the gate and jumps off the top rope across Rocco's back. He goes for the Party Splash, but Rocco moves. Dwight lands on the second rope and jumps off at Rocco, but is met with a big boot. Rocco clubs Dwight around the ring. He misses a charge in the corner. Dwight goes off the ropes, ducks a clothesline, but runs into a spinebuster. Rocco locks in a submission. Dwight fights out and connects with a high knee. He hits a dropkick and a boot to the face in the corner. He goes up top and leaps into a Plunge attempt, but slides out and hits the in-knee-briator. Tony Gunn comes to ringside to distract Dwight. Rocco gets back up and goes for the Plunge. Dwight slides out again and goes for the Hangover. Rocco slides out and does connect with the Plunge for the 3.

Stephon Smith comes out and says he's been disrespected, undermined by everyone including Danny Davis and now Dean Hill. He will not tolerate it anymore. He calls out any "goon" from the back to come out and face the true heart and soul of professional wrestling. Trevor Steele comes out, but is met at ringside by Hy Zaya and Josh Ashcraft.
While Steele is distracted, Big Zo attacks Steele from behind. They choke him with a chain and Zo hits a Zo Bomb in the corner.
He then delivers a powerbomb in what could be a sign of things to come at War Games.

PICK YOUR POISON (ASSASSIN GAUNTLET): Rudy Switchblade defeats Mini Assassin, the Assassin, & Super Assassin. Rudy takes Mini Assassin down pretty quickly and makes him tap to the elevated Boston Crab.
He then defeats Assassin with a kick to the head and a frog splash for the 3.
Super Assassin comes out and shakes Rudy's hand, but knees him in the gut. He pulls out a chain and blasts Rudy with it for the DQ. He then hits Rudy with a Plunge, and unmasks to show that he is Rocco Bellagio.

OVW TELEVISION TITLE AND ADVANTAGE IN WAR GAMES: "Shotgun" Tony Gunn (c) defeats Big Jon. Gunn slaps Jon in the face. Jon hits him, connects with a shoulder block, slams Gunn, and splashes him in the corner. He runs into a knee. Gunn hits Jon and charges at him in the corner. Jon flips him over and Gunn lands on the apron. He pulls Jon's arm down across the top rope and pulls him all the way to the outside. Jon charges at Gunn, but runs shoulder first into the ringpost. Gunn works over his arm. Off the ropes, Jon catches him with a side slam for 2. He goes for the chokeslam, but Gunn reverses it into a cross armbreaker, and then turns it into the Devil's Gate chokehold. Jon gets up and powerbombs him with one arm to break the hold. He goes to splash Gunn in the corner, but Gunn moves and pulls referee AJ Lucio in the way. Jon hits the chokeslam, but there is no ref to count. Justin Smooth comes out and attacks Jon, and this leads to a parade of all the competitors for War Games coming out. After Smooth, it was Tyler Matrix, Robbie Walker, Bud Dwight, the Van Zandt Family Circus, & the Tag Buddies coming to the ring with many of them hitting their finishers on the previous superstar that entered. Jon goes for another chokeslam on Gunn, but Smooth gets back in again and blindsides Jon. He hits Street Justice, and Gunn gets the 1-2-3 after the ref regains consciousness.
After the match, all 10 end up in the ring brawling to end the show and preview War Games.

This ended the TV taping.

Post-Show Dark Matches:


Justin Smooth defeats Trevor Steele. A back and forth match, but as Steele gains the upperhand and looks to lock in the chicken wing, Josh Ashcraft comes out and distracts Steele. This allows Smooth to recover and connect with Street Justice for the 3.

  1. So now, Jamie Lynn is the women's champion? Whose going to hold the title next? The ring girl, maybe? Or how about Pam (the photographer)? Maybe one of the concession stand ladies?

  2. Please just deactivate the Womens Title already, it was painful to read/watch before, but now it's getting unbearable.
