OVW TV #995: Rough Road, Smooth Sailing

This is the OVW Report for Wednesday, September 5, 2018. This episode can be seen on WBNA-21 in the Louisville area on Saturday at 11AM and 9PM, and online at OVW TV. In this episode, Justin Smooth and Ryan Howe continue their rivalry in a preliminary match for the Grand Tournament, Crazzy Steve & Amon are in tag team action, Jax Dane faces Colton Cage, plus more!

Pre-Show Dark Matches:

"The Real Deal" Randall Floyd defeats Brandon Wolfe. A lot of hold exchanges back and forth. Floyd with a huge back body drop as Wolfe comes out of the corner. Wolfe rolls under the ropes, then pulls Floyd's head down across the top rope as he goes to grab him. He leaps in off the top rope from the apron with a clothesline. He hits Floyd in the face, then chokes him in the ropes. Floyd rolls him up for 2, but Wolfe charges back with a clothesline and chokes him with his boot. Wolfe hits a back elbow, ducks Floyd, and hits him. He tries to leap in off the top rope again, but this time, Floyd catches him with a shot to the abdomen. He connects with the Deal Breaker and gets the 3.

Cali Young defeats Jessie Belle. Quick back and forth takedowns from both ladies. Jessie misses the "Oh Snap" elbow drop. She goes to grab Cali who has rolled out to the apron, but Cali pulls Jessie's arm down across the top rope. Cali gets back in and locks her up in the armbreaker, and Jessie taps out.

Shiloh Jonze (w/DL3 & Crude Oil) defeats Eddie Knight. DL3 distracts Eddie on the apron and Shiloh hits him from behind. DL3 provides ringside commentary while the match is going on. Eddie fires back out of the corner and Crude runs in while DL3 distracts the ref again. Eddie promptly disposes of him, but turns around into a vicious chop from Shiloh. Shiloh does a Shiloh-roonie and hits a rocket punch for the 3.

Crazzy Steve & Amon (w/"The Void": Chace Destiny, Nigel Winters, & Houdini) defeat Dimes & "Livewire" KTD. Amon goes right after Dimes and clubs him hard. Steve tags in and works him over and chokes him in the ropes. Amon throws Dimes hard in the corner and shoulders him. Steve tags back in and chops him. He hits his head off the turnbuckle and tags Amon. Amon works him over and Steve tags back in. He hits a Russian leg sweep for 2. He throws him to the corner and KTD tags in. KTD gets some shots in, but Steve hits him with a throat thrust. He tags Amon and they hit KTD with their finisher for the 3.

After the match, Crazzy Steve introduces himself. He says him along with Amon and his pet monster, Abyss, are here to turn Ohio Valley into the Valley of Shadows. Abyss is still suspended, but that doesn't mean the violence stops! Throwing Justin Smooth through a table last week was just the beginning!

Smooth runs out and Amon, Steve, and the Void clear the ring. Smooth says every time he gets taken down, the narrative remains the same. He comes back 5 times stronger. He beat Amon and his cronies at the Special, and will beat Ryan Howe tonight in his qualifying match for the Heavyweight Title Tournament. He hasn't forgot about what Howe did at the State Fair!

DARK SEGMENT: Sam Thompson comes out and says he beat Dapper Dan at the Special, then went to Dean Hill and asked for the biggest, baddest opponent to defend against tonight. He has Crimson after intermission.

Gilbert Corsey brings out "The War Kings": Jax Dane & Crimson. Crimson says he was outnumbered Saturday and that's why he lost to Dustin Jackson. Jax takes exception to it being called a captain's match , when he is the captain. Crimson says to not get caught up in all that. The Bro Godz come out and Jax challenges Colton Cage to a match...

Colton Cage (w/Dustin Jackson) defeats Jax Dane (w/Crimson). Jax controls early with his power. He hits Colton with a shoulder block, big spinebuster, then chops him hard in the corner. He throws him hard into another corner and stomps a mudhole in him. He throws him hard into the opposite corner and splashes him. He hits an overhead throw suplex and Cage is folded up like an accordion. Cage starts to fire back, but Jax catches him with a big right. He throws him outside, and Crimson throws him back in. Cage tries to fire back again, but gets caught with a huge Samoan drop. Jax says he's done and lifts Colton up, but he slides off and rolls Jax up for a quick 3!

OVW TELEVISION TITLE MATCH: "The Leading Man" Billy O, "The Star of the Show" (c) defeats Matt Sigmon. Billy takes him down early, but Sigmon drops him and chops him. Billy takes control for a bit, but Sigmon comes back with a chop, snap suplex, and flying headbutt. He locks in an armlock submission, but Billy gets to the ropes. Sigmon hits him in the face, but Billy drags him into the middle turnbuckle. He pounds him, then connects with the running knee to the face for the 3!

DARK SEGMENT: Tony Gunn comes out and says he is the best wrestler here. You may not know that from his last few matches with Randall Floyd. The ref messed up saying he was pinned, when his shoulder was up. He says then at the Special, he scratched and clawed to get to the rope. He got there, but Floyd pulled him back out. He tried to claw back to the rope, and the ref thought he was tapping. He says a man like him does not tap! He says Floyd is a loser and his luck is about to run out. He will break him in a submission match at E-Town on September 15. Click, click, boom.

Meg Monroe comes out and says she is mad, because she would not submit to Jaylee any time. Cali ruined it for her by throwing in a beach towel. Who is dumb enough to do that? Jaylee comes out and says Meg is lucky that Cali did throw the towel in. Meg challenges her to come in and put the armbar on her. Jaylee does, but Meg reverses and hits her with a Samoan drop.

Cali runs out and clips Meg's knee from behind and Jaylee & Cali stomp her. Cali says she proves once again why she is so smart. As a matter of fact, she is a genius "G-E-N-I-E", genius...

GRAND TOURNAMENT PRELIMINARY MATCH: "The Trinidad Titan" Justin Smooth defeats "Wrestling's Rockstar" Ryan Howe. Howe goes after Smooth, but Smooth fires back. Off the ropes, Howe hits his sliding uppercut. Smooth comes back and throws Howe so hard to the corner that he flips out of the ring to the floor. Smooth rolls him back in and hits him. The Void runs out and grabs Smooth while the ref is distracted. Smooth hits them off and Howe hits him with a crossroads maneuver for 2. Howe with several shots to the face. Smooth reverses a suplex and slams Howe. He kicks Howe in the face, but Howe drags him into the ropes. He goes up top, but Smooth catches him with a spinebuster. Amon & Crazzy Steve run out, and Smooth tosses Steve out and clotheslines Amon. Amon distracts the ref as Steve gets back in and takes Smooth down. Howe covers for 2! Howe throws Smooth to the corner and Smooth flips him over as he charges to the outside. Amon and company try to inetrfere again. Howe runs in and tries to roll Smooth up, but Smooth holds the ropes, then hits the bicycle kick for the 3!

This ended the TV taping.

DARK MATCH: Mike Stark & "The Empire State Goliath" Cardinal defeat Ashton Cove & William Lutz. Cardinal takes it to Lutz and tags Stark in. Stark gets too cute with an armbar, and Lutz & Cove take control. They work over his arm. Cardinal tags himself in and hits Cove with the spinning cutter for the 3, then gives one to his own partner for good measure.

OVW ANARCHY TITLE DARK MATCH: "The Boy Wonder" Sam Thompson (c) vs. OVW Southern Tag Team Champion Crimson (w/Jax Dane). Crimson brings a fluorescent light bulb out. He attacks Sam as he goes to take his shirt off and stomps him. He chokes Sam with his shirt. Sam tries to fire back and catches Crimson with a boot to the face. He goes up top, but Crimson catches him and hits a fallaway slam. Crimson hits Sam's head off the barricade outside, then grabs a chair and tosses it in the ring. Sam tries to crawl in, but Crimson pulls him back out and into the barricade. He pulls out a broom and hits Sam in the backside. Crimson throws him into the ringpost and then the steel steps. Crimson sets the chair up in the corner and hits Sam with a cookie sheet. He hits a vertical suplex. Sam tries to fire back and hits a chinbuster. He charges at Crimson off the ropes and goes for the jumping DDT, but Crimson throws him off. Sam hits him with the broom and dropkicks him, but Crimson throws Sam into the chair. Crimson goes to hit him with the light bulb, but Dapper Dan is out and says he has a date with Sam in E-Town, and if anyone is going to kill the duck, it's him. He goes after Crimson, and Jax attacks Dan and tosses him. They go back after Sam, but the Bro Godz run out and fight with Crimson & Jax to the back. The match is thrown out.

Dan gets back in and hits Sam with a Death Valley Driver.
