OVW TV #998: Stand Back!

This is the OVW Report for Wednesday, September 26, 2018. This episode can be seen on WBNA-21 in the Louisville area on Saturday at 11AM and 9PM, and online at OVW TV. In this episode, Hurricane Helms faces Dapper Dan in a preliminary match for the Grand Tournament, Randy Royal faces OVW Television Champion Billy O in a preliminary match for the Grand Tournament, we learn about some of Rocco Bellagio & Nova's partners for the OVW 1000 "TOC" match, plus more!

Pre-Show Dark Matches:

"The War Kings": Jax Dane & Crimson defeat Dimes & "Livewire" KTD. Jax & Crimson argue over who will start. Jax starts and drives Dimes to the corner. He flings him across the ring. He misses a charge, but catches Dimes off the ropes. He throws him into the corner and tags Crimson, but Crimson tags him right back in. This gives Dimes time to tag KTD. KTD fires away on Jax, but Jax clubs him down and tags Crimson. Crimson throws Jax into KTD and then delivers a vertical suplex. They continue to argue and KTD hits Crimson with an enziguri. He tags to Dimes, who fires away on Crimson. Jax makes a blind tag and gets Dimes up for the finisher, but Crimson walks out on him. Jax proceeds to hit a Samoan drop for the 3.

"Shotgun" Tony Gunn defeats Brandon Wolfe. Gunn controls early, then Wolfe comes back with some quick lock-ups. Gunn plows him down off the ropes, then slams him for 2. Wolfe drops him for a quick 2. He hits a hurricanrana. Gunn flips him to the apron, then kicks the ropes as Wolfe goes to fly in. He kicks Wolfe and shoulders him in the corner. He snapmares him out, and Wolfe tries to fire back, he rolls Gunn up for a quick 2. Gunn locks him up in a scissorhold, but Wolfe gets his feet on the ropes. He throws Wolfe hard to the corner and charges in with a forearm. He shoulders him again and delivers a suplex for 2. He tries twice more, but still gets 2 counts. He puts Wolfe on the top rope, but can't superplex him. Wolfe claps his ears and hits a flying body press. He fires back and hits a standing moonsault. Wolfe hits a flying clothesline for 2. Gunn catches him with a spinebuster and locks in a modified sharpshooter for the tapout.

"The Trinidad Titan" Justin Smooth & "King's Ransom": Maximus & Leonis Khan defeat "The Vet" Apollo & "The Hernandez Brothers": Christian & Drew. Smooth takes Christian down with some big slams, then Christian clubs him in the back. He knees him, but Smooth reverses a throw to the corner and then slams him. He tags in Leonis, and he runs into Christian where neither budges. Leonis comes back with a spinning blow to take Christian down. Drew is tagged in and Leonis locks in a side headlock. He tags Maximus, who takes over the headlock. Apollo runs in and he puts him in a side headlock also. Apollo & Drew flip him over, and he comes back with a double clothesline! Drew gets him to the corner, and they work him over. Drew charges with a splash, but Maximus moves and tags Smooth. Smooth slams Drew and takes Apollo & Christian down with hits. Smooth takes Drew down and tags in Leonis. Both Khans get in and hit Drew with the double release spinebuster for the 3!

Shiloh Jonze comes out with DL3 & Big D. DL3 says Shiloh put Open Mike Eagle in his place, because he is too scared to fight him. Shiloh starts freestyling about the fans when Jessie Belle comes out and says he must have real stones to make fun of people who don't have a mic. They end up rap battling each other with Shiloh making fun of Jessie Belle's multiple marriages. She smacks him and they surround her.

Sam Thompson runs out to defend her and gets triple teamed and thrown out of the ring.

GRAND TOURNAMENT PRELIMINARY MATCH: "The Leading Man" Billy O, "The Star of the Show" vs. "The Double R Superstar" Randy Royal. A good back and forth opening, but with Royal in control in the corner, Abyss runs out and splashes Royal & Billy in the corner to cause the match to be thrown out.

Royal tries to fire back, but Amon & Crazzy Steve run out and take him down.

Randall Floyd & Big Zo come out to even things up, but then the Void runs out to assist Abyss, Amon, & Steve. Floyd, Royal, & Zo are all thrown to the outside.

They grab Billy and wrap a chair around his leg, then Abyss hits it with another chair! The locker room empties including Dean Hill to check on Billy and get them out of the ring.

Gilbert Corsey asks Dean Hill what the status is. Dean says he is worried about Billy, but the match will have to be thrown out. Gilbert asks what about the spot in the tournament? Royal comes back out and says he is pissed off and wants Abyss tonight for a shot at the title. Dean says no way. Royal says he is stuck on stupid if he thinks he will sit back and not do anything about what just happened. He wants the match! Dean says it's against his better judgment, but he will make that the new main event. He tells Royal to take care of his problem, and to make sure it's fair ground, the Void, Steve, & Amon will be barred from ringside!

GRAND TOURNAMENT PRELIMINARY MATCH: Shane "Hurricane" Helms defeats "The Man" Dapper Dan. Hurricane locks him up and sends him out of the ring. Dan drags him out and throws him into the ringpost. Back inside, Dan tries to pin for 2 after a big clothesline. He locks in a submission, but Hurricane works out and they exchange shots. Hurricane fires up and slams him. He goes for a chokeslam, but Dan breaks loose and hits the Death Valley Driver for 2! Dan goes up top and leaps off, but Hurricane catches him. Dan tries to break free again, but Hurricane gets him with the chokeslam for the 3!

Gilbert Corsey brings out Nova and Rocco Bellagio. He says they are the captains of the "TOC" match, where members of both teams will be comprised of former OVW Heavyweight Champions. Nova says his first hand-picked member is someone who doesn't like Rocco one little bit, and out comes Adam Revolver with Shannon the Dude. STD says he drove through Plungetown and it's a dried out desolate town. Adam says he is not afraid of him or anyone he has for his team. Rocco brings out his first partner...and it's Michael Hayes. Nova says he called him, come to his side, and he can be a co-captain. Hayes says he doesn't know who he even is. He says he called this place a dump, but this is his dump. He says he stands with Rocco, because they both made a name kicking Adam's butt. Adam says he's not scared and there's still no one else Rocco can have that will keep their team from winning. Rocco says his next partner, who will face him next week, is Tyler Freakin' Matrix!

GRAND TOURNAMENT PRELIMINARY MATCH: "The Monster" Abyss defeats "The Double R Superstar" Randy Royal. Royal goes off the ropes, but gets plowed down by Abyss. They lock up and Abyss throws him to the corner and chokes him. He then chokes him in the ropes. Royal comes back with the 10-count punches in the corner and knees him. Abyss catches him off the top rope with a chokeslam. Abyss poses and then locks in a headlock. Royal tries to roll him up, but Abyss drops to the mat. Royal moves, but then Abyss gets back up and clotheslines him down. Abyss hits Royal with a hard chop in the corner, then another. He splashes Royal in the corner and works him over. Royal comes firing back and hits a missile dropkick off the top rope for 1. Abyss clubs Royal down and grabs a chair. The ref pulls it away and Royal kicks Abyss below the belt. He spears him for 2. He charges, but Abyss grabs him by the throat. Royal breaks free, but gets caught with the Black Hole Slam for the 3.

After the match, Abyss says to respect a hall of famer! In 2 weeks, it will be just like he prophesied and promised. He will become the next OVW Heavyweight Champion at 4th Street Live at OVW 1000!

This ended the TV taping.

Cali (w/Jaylee & Valerie Vermin) defeats Brittany Garcia. Cali gets Brittany to the corner and chokes her. Brittany hits her back and slams her for 2. Cali regains control and works her over, but then Brittany fires back and locks her in a Boston crab. Val distracts the ref and Brittany. Cali rolls her up from behind and holds the tights for the 3.
After the match, they triple team Brittany until Meg runs out to chase them off.

DARK MATCH: Crazzy Steve, Amon & "The Void": Chace Destiny, Nigel Winters, & Houdini defeat Big Zo, Ashton Cove, "The Real Deal" Randall Floyd, & "The Bro Godz": Dustin Jackson & Colton Cage. Randall takes Houdini down, then Zo takes Nigel down, then Cove takes Chace down with a hurricanrana. Dustin tags in and hits a beautiful dropkick. They spell "BRO" in the corner and Colton slams Chace. They hit Bro 69 and tag Randall in. Chace tags out to Amon. Randall takes him down and pounds away, but Amon comes back and Randall gets worked over by Amon's team. Randall catches Steve in the corner and delivers a t-bone suplex. He tags Zo, and Zo splashes Steve in the corner. He goes for the cartwheel butt bump and Amon moves Steve. Things break loose on the outside while Zo tags Cove. Amon headbutts him and him & Steve deliver their finisher on Cove for the 3.
