OVW TV #701: "Flash Crashes the Show"

This is the OVW Report for Wednesday, January 23, 2013. This episode can be seen online starting tomorrow at www.ovwrestling.com/tv. In this episode, Flash wanted to make his presence known, new #1 contenders were made for the OVW Women's & Heavyweight Titles, matches were set for the February SNS, plus much more!

Without further ado:

Here we go...

Pre-Show Dark Matches:

Rudy Switchblade b. Jeremiah Plunkett. Plunkett gets Rudy in the corner and clean breaks. Rudy locks up and gets Plunkett in the corner, but rares back to punch Plunkett, but referee Chris Sharpe grabs his arm. Plunkett takes the advantage and throws Rudy into the corner. Plunkett charges, but Rudy slides out and pulls Plunkett's head across the top rope. Rudy goes up top, but Plunkett recovers and knocks him down across the top turnbuckle and shoves him to the mat. He applies a cross face lock, but Rudy fights back and hits a chinbuster. He tells Sharpe to look the other way and kicks Plunkett below the belt. He then hits a modified pedigree-like maneuver for the 1-2-3. MY TAKE: It will be interesting to see where Rudy goes from here as the fans were clearly behind him and cheering for him tonight.

"The Double R Superstar" Randy Royal & Tony Gunn b. King Enterprises: Matt & Chase King. Tony tries a quick rollup on Matt, but gets 2. He hits an arm drag and tags in Royal. They throw Matt off the ropes and hit a double hip toss. Royal works on Matt's arm and tags Tony back in. Tony goes up to the second rope and comes down across Matt's arm. He tags Royal back in. They again throw Matt off the ropes and Royal kicks him and Gunn hits a kneelift. Chase gets in the ring to break up a pinfall attempt. Gunn comes in after Chase, but referee Josh Ashcraft turns his back to get him in his corner. This allows the Kings to double team Royal. Royal fights back, though, and makes a tag. Gunn is in with some big lariats and locks Matt in the cloverleaf. Chase tries to come in, but Royal meets him with a spear. Matt is forced to tap out. After the match, the Kings were clotheslined by the Assassin. MY TAKE: Royal & Gunn continue to prove that they work well together, whether it is Gunn coaching Royal along, or as an actual tag team tonight.

Eddie Diamond (w/Timmy Danger) b. "VIP" Joe Rosa. Before the match started, EFD said this match was a tribute to Epiphany. Diamond goes after VIP twice, but VIP ducks away. After the second time, VIP got out on the apron, but Diamond brought him back by pulling the ropes and flipping him back in. VIP pokes Diamond in the eye to take the advantage. He hits a big spinebuster and the "V-I-P" legdrop. He can't put him away. He throws Diamond in the corner, but runs into an elbow. Eddie is back with some punches, and hits a spinning back elbow off the ropes. He hits a backdrop followed by a reverse DDT. He cranks the Soulja Boy shuffle for 3. MY TAKE: EFD did enough to come away with a win, but is it enough to impress Epiphany?

That concludes tonight's pre-show dark matches. I always recommend watching the episode first on TV or online before reading the rest of the report. Again, you can check it out on OVW's official website late Thursday afternoon/evening at www.ovwrestling.com/tv.

The show starts off with a recap of last week's historic 700th episode.

Ryan Howe vs. "The Ken of OVW, Justin Bieber of Professional Wrestling, & King of Pink" Dylan Freak'n Bostic. Howe controls most of the match. Toward the end, he hits a dropkick and a neckbreaker on Bostic. He goes up top for the Chart Topper, but Flash runs out and shoves him off the top rope. Bostic is back up and hits a backstabber for the pin. WINNER: BOSTIC by pinfall. After the match, Flash got in the ring and stomped away on Howe. Trailer Park Trash ran out and ran him off. Josette grabs a mic and says it's funny that he would be upset about someone interfering in a match when he did the same thing to Flash last week. She says they want another rematch or they are going to continue interfering with the show. MY TAKE: It looks like Flash & Josette are trying to force their way into something once again. Will Trash grant the rematch?

#1 CONTENDER'S MATCH FOR THE OVW WOMEN'S TITLE: Taeler Hendrix vs. Epiphany. Before the match starts, we get a Mixtape from Eddie Diamond where he calls "VIP" a bug-eyed, Admiral Akbar lookin' suckah of the week, but really wants Epiphany to call him. Taeler jumps on Epiphany's back to start the match. Epiphany rams her into the corner. She charges after her, but Taeler moves and tries to roll her up, but only gets 2. She puts several kicks to Epiphany and chops her in the chest, but Epiphany comes back with chops of her own, and chokes her with her boot in the corner. She hits a powerslam and gets the 3! WINNER and NEW #1 CONTENDER: EPIPHANY by pinfall. After the match, Taeler throws a tantrum at ringside again. MY TAKE: Taeler has gone crazy and now Epiphany has stepped up and earned a shot at the OVW Women's Title.

Backstage, Randy Royal is telling Tony Gunn that he got his medical bills and it's over $51,000. Tony tells him to stay strong and keep listening to him and everything will be fine. We then see Johnny Spade walk into the locker room where Moose is sitting. Moose asks Spade if he has any tips for his #1 contender's match against Doug Williams. Spade says no, and as a matter of fact, that #1 contendership should be his shot and his opportunity, not Moose's.

The Coalition: "He-Man of Homeland Security" Jason Wayne & "General" Crimson (w/Joe Coleman, Jack Black, Ghillie Man, & the Wild Cards) vs. The Mobile Homers: Adam Revolver & "Manbeast" Ted McNaler (w/Brittany Devore). Wayne starts in the ring with Ted, but starts to have a flashback. Ted tags Adam and Adam tries to sneak up and roll him up from behind, but Wayne kicks out. Referee Chris Sharpe throws the rest of the Coalition out from ringside. Wayne & Crimson double team Adam. They hit a double front suplex, throwing Adam on his face. Crimson pounds on Adam and chokes him. He throws him in the corner, but Adam moves, and Crimson runs face first into the middle turnbuckle. Tags are made on both sides, and Ted is on fire. He takes Wayne down with a dropkick to the knee, and then hits a flying tackle. Adam clotheslines Crimson and both men are out of the ring. Flash comes out and pulls Adam off the apron distracting Ted. Flash hits Ted and Wayne rolls him up with a handful of tights for the win. After the match, the entire Coalition beats Adam & Ted down as Black holds Brittany and makes her watch. WINNERS: COALITION by pinfall. MY TAKE: It doesn't look like Jamin is finished in his quest to win the OVW TV Title. He wants revenge and the title after the way Cliff beat him at the last SNS.

After the Coalition left, Terry Boddie & Michael Titus got into an altercation at ringside. Backstage, Trailer Park Trash checks on the Mobile Homers and apologizes that his personal business affected their match. They want to get their hands on Flash, and they said something that offended the Mascara Mafia. Paredyse got on them and said that's how prejudices get started.

Jamin Olivencia is out to the ring with both TV Titles. He says he is being forced to return them to Cliff Compton or he will be fired. He calls Cliff out. He has a proposition. He says the sequel is always better than the original and challenges Cliff to another ladder match at the next SNS. Cliff says no, that Jamin is not even the #1 contender. Jamin says Cliff thinks of himself as Batman, some kind of superhero, but it sounds like he's chicken. Cliff finally accepts, but under the stipulation that neither man can challenge one another for the TV Title after SNS. Jamin throws the titles down and Cliff tries to hit Jamin with them, but Jamin ducks and lays Cliff out instead. MY TAKE: Another brutal ladder match is around the corner. Are these guys crazy or just prideful? After the last ladder match, this is a can't miss event!

Backstage, the Gutcheckers tell the Coalition that they are getting their rematch at the next SNS, because they got a call from the Pentagon and talked with Donald Rumsfeld and were granted it.

#1 CONTENDER'S MATCH FOR THE OVW HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE: Doug Williams vs. James "Moose' Thomas. The 2 lock-up and Moose throws Doug down. They lock up in a test of strength and Moose is taking Doug down, when Doug kicks him. He goes off the ropes, but Moose takes him down with a shoulder block. Doug rolls out. He gets back in and locks up Moose from behind. Moose knocks him off. Doug comes back and gets an armlock on Moose. Moose breaks free again and Doug again rolls out. When he comes back in, he offers a handshake, but pokes Moose in the eye. He throws Moose in the corner and tries to ram his face into the turnbuckle, but Moose blocks and rams Doug's head into it instead. Doug comes back and throws Moose into another corner, but Moose knees him as he charges in. Doug grabs his leg and throws it over the second rope and kicks it. He grabs him and tried to clothesline him, but Moose doesn't budge. He charges after Doug, but Doug pulls down the top rope and Moose flies to the outside. Moose rolls in, and Doug stomps him. He pulls Moose's head across the top rope. He hits a snapmare and places him in a sleeper hold. Moose is up, but Doug pulls him to the mat by his hair. He tries to pin 3 times, but gets 2 counts. He puts Moose in a front face lock. Moose gets back up again, but Doug hits him with a back elbow off the ropes. Moose falls into the corner where Doug hits him with a running knee to the gut. He goes for a suplex, but can't budge him.Moose reverses and hits a suplex of his own. Both men get back up and exchange blows. Moose is back with shoulder takedowns, but Doug comes back with a spinning back elbow off the top rope. Johnny Spade has made his way to ringside to watch. Moose comes back with a clothesline, side slam, and a splash in the corner, but only gets a 2 count. Moose picks Doug up, but Doug reverses into a pin for 2. Moose goes to splash Doug in the corner again, but catches Doug and referee Josh Ashcraft. He hits the Moose Kick on Doug, but Josh is out. As Moose checks on him, Flash is out with a steel chair and nails Moose from behind, all while Spade watches. Doug gets the 3. WINNER and NEW #1 CONTENDER FOR THE OVW HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE: WILLIAMS by pinfall. After the match, Trash and the locker room surround the ring. Trash gets in and tells Flash that he will get his rematch at SNS, but it won't be the one he wants for the OVW Heavyweight Title. It will be against him in a Last Man Standing match! MY TAKE: Big Rob will meet a former ally in the British Invasion at the next SNS. Flash & Trash will clash again and based on last SNS's hardcore match, it should be a doozy.

This ended the TV taping.

Post-Show Dark Matches:

The Gutcheckers: Sam Shaw & Alex Silva b. The Coalition: "Sergeant Major" Jack Black & "Lieutenant Lats" Joe Coleman (w/the Wild Cards & Ghillie Man). Shaw & Coleman lock up and Shaw takes Joe down ino a headlock. Joe reverses into an armlock, but Shaw reverses again into an armbar. Silva tags in and yanks Joe's arm across his shoulder. Shaw is back in and they throw Coleman off the ropes and hit a double faceplant. Silva is back in, but is quadruple teamed as the ref gets distracted. Silva's leg is worked over. He is thrown into the corner by Black, but comes out with a Silva Surfer. Tags from both teams. Shaw is in with some shots to Coleman, followed by 2 dropkicks. He hits the backbreaker/neckbreaker combo and goes up top for Breaking Point. The Wild Cards try to interfere, but are knocked off the apron and to the floor. Silva takes down Black and then hits a Silva Surfer on Coleman, followed by Breaking Point from Shaw for the 3. MY TAKE: Can the Gutcheckers defeat the other Coalition members to regain their titles at the next SNS?

Don't forget this episode will be up online tomorrow. We now know that every title will be defended at SNS as Jessie Belle defends the OVW Women's Title against Epiphany, The Coalition defends the OVW Southern Tag Team Titles against the Gutcheckers, Cliff Compton defends the TV Title against Jamin Olivencia in a ladder match, and Rob Terry defends the OVW Heavyweight Title against Doug Williams. Plus, Trailer Park Trash vs. Flash in a Last Man Standing match. Also remember that every Monday night you can find the latest edition of the OVW Top 20 here on OVWmania. As always, thanks for reading!

  1. Very disappointed that OVW is still not promoting all three of their IMPACT Gutcheck winners at the next SNS. As I stated before, these three are great athletes/wrestlers. And deserve as much visibility as possible to return them into IMPACT ring. Why two of the three at SNS? What’s up with that?

    1. I think they have a different plan for Taeler in mind, between her temper tantrums and the anonymous gifts she is getting. I like Taeler, but it will be fresh to see a different Women's battle at the next SNS.

  2. True. (And remember like myself and the majority of her 13000 other followers, are not in Louisville). You see the action as it occurs. Hopefully, Snow/Davis have a more positive script for her. And please.. no more dog fecal matches....all of the ladies are great athletes/wrestlers...they work real hard at OVW. It appears the competition to remain on the TNA roster is becoming fierce for all of the Gut Checkers. One would think that Snow/Davis would recognize this and continue to promote them.
